Common Chiropractic Myths

There are a large number of people who don’t know enough about how chiropractic care works or have just heard misinformation which can scare someone away from seeking chiropractic care. Limestone Chiropractic is here to debunk a few of the myths surrounding chiropractors and chiropractic care, and bring you accurate information.

You Have To Go Forever

False. You do not have to go to a chiropractor for the rest of your life. The amount of treatments you need will depend on the desired end goal, the level of pain, and how extensive the problem is. After your evaluation your doctor will speak with you about options for your health care and how to best try to reach your desired healthcare goals. Whatever the reason you are seeking chiropractic care for, your treatment will be customized specifically to you and your needs. One major reason why people feel the need to continue with chiropractic care is because of the level of pain relief achieved and the physical improvements after care. The pain relief and improved mobility after an adjustment without the use of drugs are strong motivators for returning to chiropractic.

Chiropractic Adjustments Hurt

This is another really common myth. As a new patient, it might be hard to believe that it doesn’t hurt, but the majority of our patients enjoy the feeling of relief after their adjustment. Think of it as a “no pain, no gain” situation. While you won’t feel extensive pain, you will feel some pressure which usually subsides a few seconds after. Most new patients are already in a lot of pain, so the adjustment should not add to that, but instead gives you some relief even after your first treatment.

Chiropractic Care Isn’t Covered By Insurance

Another misunderstood topic surrounding chiropractic care. At Limestone Chiropractic in Athens, Alabama, we accept most major insurances. These include Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, United and Medicare among others. Most major insurance carriers cover chiropractic care. To see if we accept your insurance, give our officer a call at (256) 233-7994.

Chiropractors Aren’t Real Doctors

Chiropractors go through intense training and many years of schooling. They earn qualifications and a license to practice just like any other doctor. They are recognized by the Department of Health and Human Services, Insurance Companies, hospitals, and by federal and state law as doctors. Chiropractors are qualified to assess, diagnose, treat, and refer patients just like any other doctor.

You Can Only See A Chiropractor For Back Pain

While back pain is one of the most common reasons for visiting a doctor of chiropractic, it is not the only thing that chiropractors treat. Chiropractic care helps relieve pain in a variety of areas in your body including neck, back, shoulder, knees, arms, legs, and many more. They can also help with pain in your muscles and joints as well as give guidance on nutrition. They can also help in rehabilitating the body from chronic and acute injuries. In addition to those, chiropractic care can also help with a myriad of conditions. In short, there are a variety of different reasons to visit a chiropractor to also include wellness care which is the maintenance of the body's normal function. It's just like seeing your dentist for a checkup. It's always better to catch a problem early before it gets too complicated and difficult to treat.
